RBI Mandates Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) for Entities w.e.f 1 April 2021

RBI as per its directive dated 5 January 2021 vide circular RBI/2020-21/82 has mandated the use of Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) for entities (non-individuals).

W.e.f 1 April 2021, entities are required to present the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) – a 20 digit number in order to process payment transactions of value ₹50 crore and above while using RBI’s Centralised Payment Systems i.e. Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) and National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT). Without LEI, such RTGS and / or NEFT transactions will not be processed.

Steps to obtain Legal Entity Identifier (LEI)

In India, LEI can be obtained from Legal Entity Identifier India Ltd. (LEIL) https://www.ccilindia-lei.co.in which is also recognised as an issuer of LEI by the Reserve Bank under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007.
Alternatively, you can visit https://www.legalentityidentifier.in/lei-number-registration/ or obtain LEI from any of the Local Operating Units (LOUs) accredited by the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF)

Get your LEI updated with the Bank records
Once the LEI is obtained, please submit this information to the Bank and get it updated in the bank records. You can submit LEI to your nearest branch, contact your Relationship Manager or call our Phone Banking centre at 18602677777.
If LEI is not updated with the bank records, we will be constrained to decline RTGS/NEFT transaction(s) of value ₹50 crore and above w.e.f 1 April 2021.

LEI for transactions processed through IndusDIRECT Payments - Corporate Internet Banking Portal
To enable processing of RTGS and NEFT transactions of value INR 50 Cr and above through IndusDIRECT Payments, please ensure your valid LEI and Beneficiary LEI is provided in the designated fields during manual entry and File upload. Without LEI, such RTGS and NEFT transactions will not be processed.

LEI for transactions processed through IndusDIRECT Trade - Corporate Internet Banking Portal

To process Inward Remittance, Outward Remittance, Import Bill Payment, or LC Bill Payment transactions of INR 50 Cr and above through the IndusDIRECT Trade – Corporate Internet Banking Portal, please ensure A valid Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) is provided in the designated fields or Send to Bank field during manual entry. Transactions without a valid LEI will not be processed.
