Sarita Bhise: Field Hockey

Sarita was born in a Dhuldev village which literally means a god of dust in a draught prone Mann Block in Satara district. Sarita comes from a small village called Dhuldev in Satara district. Sarita was born in a Shephard’s family. She has grown up with three siblings, one elder brother, and two sisters. Herding sheep’s was a regularity in Sarita’s life as growing up in Dhuldev. Shepherds in the area are called Monsoon chasers, since they follow the rains. While growing up Sarita used to go with the folk of sheep’s in search of water, She used to walk 600 km in six months while herding the sheep’s. Her job was to make sure that the sheep’s don’t go to other farmer’s field and save them from wolves by tracking the wolves. Mann Deshi’s coach Lokhande sir and the team were recruiting athletes, and they came to know about Sarita and found out that Sarita is the fastest sheep catcher in the village. Mann Deshi scouted Sarita and trained her for the field hockey, just like Kajal, Sarita was selected by the National School of Sports in Pune. Today a shepherd has become the captain of Maharashtra field hockey team and has won bronze medal at the Khelo India 2020. Sarita wants to be a goal keeper for Indian national team.
