Tarun Dhillon

Tarun met with an accident when he was 8 years old while playing football, and seriously injured his right knee resulting in his movement getting restricted despite two surgeries. A year later, he dropped football as he turned to badminton. By the age of 11, Tarun was crowned India’s number one shuttler in the physically challenged category for juniors, thus showcasing his potential from a very young age. He has played multiple sports at the school level, including cricket, but chose badminton over the rest because it is an individual sport and has helped him fight his disability better. Despite having minimal support from his parents, he was self-motivated to cultivate sports as a career with an ambition to create an image and become a role model through sports. Although he competes with para athletes, he still enjoys playing against able-bodied players. He won his first international medal (gold medal) at the World Championships in 2013 in the Singles event. Since then, he has continued to shine by winning the Silver medal at the BWF Para Badminton World Championships in 2017, and winning 1 Gold medal and 1 Bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Para Games. He also been a part of the Indian Para Badminton Team who have won a tremendous amount of medals over the last few years.
