Dharambir
Originally from Sonipat, Haryana, Dharambir was not familiar with sports until very recently. However, his life changed when while attempting to dive into water, Dharambir misjudged the depth and accidentally crashed into the underlying rocks of the water body. The result was waist below paralysis. Dharambir became familiar with para-sports in 2014 and took to club throw, under the guidance of his mentor and fellow para athlete Amit Kumar Saroha, who has a similar condition to Dharambir’s. Within a span of just two years, he improved tremendously, first securing the ‘A’ qualification mark for the 2016 Rio Paralympics - at the 2016 Fazza IPC Athletics Grand Prix, Dubai. He has been in really good form and is winning medals for the Country. He has recently won a Silver medal at the Asian Para Games 2022 held in China. He won Bhim Award 2022, which is the highest sport honor given by Government of Haryana for outstanding performances in National and International competitions.
