FASTag is an NHAI-operated electronic system for toll collection. The system of FASTag is based on the RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Device) technology and is fixed on the vehicle’s windscreen. In simple words, FASTag’s are the tags that have to be recharged by paying in advance for the future toll collection. Starting January 1, 2021, all toll lanes will be dedicated FASTag lanes, and so not having a FASTag<\/a> will require you to pay a penalty of twice the toll charges. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, these Tags have a never-ending\nvalidity period. They can be used until they are not tinkered and are in readable\ncondition for the machines installed at the toll plaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the working mechanism of FASTag?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Vehicles with activated FASTag need not do any\npayment at the toll gates as the toll charges will be deducted on the vehicle’s\nmovement. The toll charges will be automatically debited from the bank account\nor digital wallet linked with the FASTag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This will facilitate the drivers not to stop\nfor a long time at the toll plazas to make the toll charges payments. As the\ncollection of toll charges would be done electronically under the NETC\n(National Electronic Toll Collection) program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you receive your FASTag, there are two\nways to activate the FASTag:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. You can visit a bank branch to activate\nFASTag.<\/li>
  2. Or, you can do self-activation of the\nFASTag.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Steps for Self-Activation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
    • Install the ‘My FASTag’ application on\nyour smartphone from the play store.<\/li>
    • After installing the App, enter all the\nmandatory details of the vehicle.<\/li>
    • Now, link the FASTag to the desired\ndigital wallet or bank accounts.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Steps for activating FASTag by visiting a bank branch<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      The FASTag can be\nlinked with the relevant bank account by the applicant. In addition to this,\nthey have to submit RC (Registration certificate) of vehicle and KYC documents\nfor activating FASTag.    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Being a FASTag owner,\nif you are not willing to add any of the digital wallet or bank account, you\ncan link it with NHAI prepaid wallet. This facility enables the user to add\nfunds for the payment of future toll charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
